Tornado safety tips

Image- 20130521- Bad weatherWe’ve reached that time of year when spring meets summer. This can lead to warm days and cold nights. Unfortunately, when cold air meets warmer humid air high in the atmosphere, dangerous weather conditions can occur.

We want to keep you and your family safe in inclement weather. It can pop up quickly and strike hard. Be tornado ready with Elephant’s quick safety tips:

  • Listen to the news or to NOAA Weather Radio for updates on the changing weather conditions
  • Move indoors, into the center part of your house without windows.
  • Secure/store items from your yard
  • Move your car into a garage or covered area
  • Keep your car away from low-lying areas prone to flooding, and do not attempt to drive through water covered roadways.

Most importantly, stay alert to any changes in the weather. If you see any of the following seek shelter immediately:

  • Greenish/dark sky
  • Dark low-lying clouds, especially if they are rotating
  • A roar like a freight train
  • Large hail
