What cars top the speeding charts at Elephant.com?

Speed limit 35Here at Elephant we’ve taken an alternative look at our data to bring you the Elephant Speed Charts: a run-down of the vehicles most commonly caught speeding. The results are perhaps surprising.

Looking through the results, I was half expecting to see a Subaru Impreza here and a Porsche 911 there (apologizes to our safe Porsche readers); the kind of cars I’ve been passed by on the interstate as I’ve looked inexplicably at my odometer.

No, our data shows that on average, the Nissan Altima is most involved in traffic stops and tickets for exceeding the speed limit. That’s the mid-size, family friendly Nissan Altima.

Nissan and Honda make up the top four, with the Civic, Accord and Maxima all making the chart.

Percentage of vehicle owners who have received a speeding ticket:

Nissan Altima 44%
Honda Civic 43.1%
Honda Accord 42.7%
Nissan Maxima 42.4%
Volkswagen Jetta 42.1%
Chevy Impala 41.9%
Dodge Neon 39.3%
Toyota Camry 39.2%

Needless to say, following the laws of the roads are important in keeping us safe. Plus you’ll help yourself avoid increased auto insurance costs from violations. Our advice – leave a little earlier if you can, enjoy the ride and smile as you’re passed by a Dodge Neon on the freeway.
