We hope you and your family are safe after the recent flooding in your area. If you were impacted by the flooding, the Illinois Department of Insurance (DOI) has issued an update with important information for consumers.
The Illinois Department of Insurance (DOI) has issued Company Bulletin 2015-13, regarding exceptions for consumers in Illinois disaster areas. The Bulletin addresses moratoriums and other safeguards for consumers affected by the disaster in the Illinois counties of Cass, Cumberland, Iroquois, Lawrence, Marion, Menard, Moultrie, Pike, Richland, Sangamon, Vermilion, Alexander, Calhoun, Christian, Clinton, Douglas, Jackson, Jersey, Madison, Monroe, Morgan, Randolph, and St. Clair.
Elephant Auto Insurance will assist our affected customers in the following manner:
- Elephant will assess Illinois policy decisions under a “reasonableness” standard that will weigh the side of the affected consumers until February 29, 2016.
- Cancellations or non-renewals issued after December 29, 2015 for affected consumers will be withdrawn with no lapse in coverage and new notices will be issued on or after February 29, 2016.
- Extensions will be offered to affected consumers for any provision with a time limit, including submission of claims, reporting of information, and payment of bills.
- Elephant will consider exceptions to policy or contract requirements or other rating or underwriting rules not listed in CB 2015-13 when contractual requirements are not met by affected consumers as a result of this disaster.
